BLEND to IFC: how to convert Blender files
FurniMesh can't open .blend files or write IFC. Here's what to do instead.
Quick answer: FurniMesh can't open .blend files or create IFC files, and Blender has no built-in IFC export (a Blender extension can add one). Otherwise, export GLB from Blender (File → Export → glTF 2.0 (.glb/.gltf), then choose glTF Binary (.glb)) and use a 3D tool that writes IFC. Blender is free, so this route costs nothing.

How to convert BLEND to IFC
- Open the .blend file in Blender (free from blender.org).
- Select File → Export → glTF 2.0 (.glb/.gltf) and choose glTF Binary (.glb). This saves a GLB file, which most 3D tools can open.
- Open the GLB in a 3D tool that writes IFC. FurniMesh's converter doesn't produce IFC files.

IFC is an open BIM format that stores building geometry, materials, real-world units and a structured hierarchy of building elements.

File format information for BLEND and IFC
Detailed information about the source and target file formats, including their capabilities and specifications.
BLEND Format
BLEND (Blender): A proprietary file format (.blend) used by Blender 3D software. It stores complete 3D scenes including geometry, materials, textures, animations, and lighting. Ideal for professional 3D modeling and animation workflows.
BLEND Converter Capabilities
When converting 3D model or mesh files using our BLEND converter, we will attempt to convert color materials into a suitable format for use in the converted file.
IFC Format
IFC (Industry Foundation Classes): An open file format (.ifc) for Building Information Modeling (BIM), used in architecture and construction. It stores detailed building data, including geometry and properties, for interoperability.

About BLEND to IFC
FurniMesh writes BLEND files (from GLB, OBJ, FBX, STL and more files, or from a photo) but can't read them: opening a .blend file needs Blender. FurniMesh's converter doesn't write IFC either, so export GLB from Blender and use a tool that writes IFC.
